Donald Hoyt, 92, of Remsen died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

He was born Feb. 10, 1912, at rural Le Mars, the son of Harry and Blanche (Lee) Hoyt.

Don was raised in the Le Mars area and received his education at Union School after which he attended Western Union College in Le Mars. He was then engaged in farming in the Marcus area.

On May 11, 1937, he married Callista Galles at Remsen. They made their home near Marcus where they farmed until 1960. Callista died May 27, 1961, and a short time later Don moved with his family into Marcus. In 1960, he began working for Co-Op Oil of Marcus and Remsen. In 1963 he moved to Remsen where he did custodial work at both St. Mary's Catholic and Remsen-Union schools until his retirement.

On Oct. 31, 1964, he married Agnes Baumann at Marcus and they made their home in Remsen. During his retirement he built, repaired and refinished furniture at his home. The couple entered the Happy Siesta Health Care Center on Aug. 24, 1998. Agnes died Dec. 27, 2000.

Don was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen.

Survivors include one son, Randy and his wife, Debbie, of Runnells; five daughters, Karen and her husband, Jim Bellas, of Washington, D.C., Linda and her husband, Merle Spieler, of Marcus, Sue and her husband, Frank Tritz, and Rita and her husband, Tom Nuebel, all of Remsen, Jeanie Baumann of Omaha, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Burdette of Hemet, Calif., and Betty and her husband, Alvin Joslin of Indianapolis, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and James; and three sisters, his twin sister, Dorothy Shields, Almerta Fisk, Helen Warner.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Revs. Timothy Johnson and Donald Slaven officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery in Marcus. Friends may call any time after 2 p.m. today (Wednesday), at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Denny and Jeff Spieler, Clint, Hank, Jeff and Mike Tritz.
