James M. "Jim" Ziniel, 73, of Le Mars died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
James Math Ziniel was born Sept. 10, 1931, at Eden, S.D., the son of Math and Theresa (Lehner) Ziniel. He grew up and graduated from high school at Roslyn, S.D. Jim served two years of active service with the U.S. Army in Korea, during the Korean War in 1954 and 1955. He married Lois Lardy on Sept. 1, 1956, at Eden, S.D. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Mankato, Minn., for 25 years. They moved to Le Mars in 1979, where he owned and operated the Le Mars Laundromat and Dry Cleaning for 19 years. His business also serviced washers and dryers as well.
Jim was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council #1466, and the American Legion, Wasmer Post #241, all in Le Mars. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #950 in Mankato, Minn.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren. They had many memorable outings and always enjoyed their annual deer hunts. Family was important to him and he loved to spend time with them and the grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Lois of Le Mars; six children and 13 grandchildren: Terese Schwartz and her husband Lenni of Oakdale, Minn., and their son Jacob who is stationed with the U.S. Army in Ft. Stewart, Ga., Joyce Ziniel and her two children, Julie Morgan and her husband Shawn, and Josh Zimmerman, all of Mankato, Minn., Mark Ziniel and his wife Lisa and their four children, Jessica, Nicolas, Anna, and Elizabeth, all of Iowa City, Mike Ziniel and his wife, Terese and their two sons, Matt and Tyler, all of LaCresent, Minn., Lori Ruhland and her husband John and their two children, Katie and Jack, all of Le Mars, and Nick Ziniel and his wife, Patti and their two children, Hunter and Payton, all of Elko, Minn.; a great-grandson Nicholas Morgan of Mankato, Minn.; and a brother, John Ziniel and his wife, Jo Ann of Akron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Hope Ruhland; and a brother, Joe Ziniel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Military honors will be conducted by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion at the gravesite.
Friends may call anytime after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a Parish rosary at 4 p.m., a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be seven grandsons: Shawn Morgan, Josh Zimmerman, Jacob Linder, Matt Ziniel, Ty Ziniel, Hunter Ziniel, and Nicolas Ziniel.
