Marcella 'Sally' Zwach

NEW ULM, Minn. -- Marcella "Sally" Zwach, 82, of New Ulm, Minn., died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye, Minn.

Marcella Schimschock was born Nov. 22, 1921, at Milford Township, Brown County, in Minnesota to John and Mary (Wiess) Schimschock. On Feb. 24, 1941, she married Jerome Zwach at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage, they farmed the New Ulm area for several years until moving to New Ulm in 1946. They owned and operated Zwach Welding in New Ulm until selling the business to their son in 1989.

Marcella enjoyed playing bingo, collecting Beanie BabiesŪ, and embroidering. Grandmas and cookies are synonymous!

Marcella was a volunteer at the New Ulm Medical Center gift shop, a member of the Christian Mother's Society, the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council, and the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Gene Friederich of Le Mars; a son, Roger Zwach of New Ulm, Minn.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother and sisters-in-law, Jerome and Joan Schimschock of Milford Township, Marie Schimschock of New Ulm, and Phyllis Schimschock of Chaska, Minn.; and by a brother-in-law, Patrick Zwach of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerome Zwach on Nov. 17, 1994; granddaughter, Jennifer Friederich; a sister, Alice Domeier; and by brothers, Melvin, Jim, Ray and Eugene Schimschock.

Mass of Christian burial was at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with the Rev. John A. Richter celebrating. Burial was in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mother's Society rosary was at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cathedral. There was a parish prayer service at 5:15 p.m. and the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council rosary at 6:30 p.m. both Sunday at the funeral home.
