Barry Ludwigs, 45, of rural Le Mars, died suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a farming accident.

Barry Lee Ludwigs was born Jan. 5, 1959, at Hawarden, the son of Kenneth and LaRae (Johnson) Ludwigs. Barry was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township. He attended grade school in Brunsville and later graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1977. Following high school, Barry began farming with his father on the family farm in Grant Township.

Barry was united in marriage to Joyce Schlichte on June 15, 1985, at Christ Lutheran Church. Barry and Joyce were blessed with four children, Kenzi, Shandi, Brodi, and Lindi.

Through the years, Barry continued to farm and would further his education by taking classes at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City studying electrical and heating repair. Most recently, Barry was taking air conditioning and refrigeration classes at WITCC.

Barry was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church and had served on the church council, and as a trustee and deacon. Barry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting horse statues. In his younger years, Barry was very involved with FFA while in high school.

Barry enjoyed spending time with his children and especially taking walks in the fields and watching TV.

Survivors include his four children, Kenzi, Shandi, Brodi, and Lindi of Craig; his parents, Kenneth and LaRae of rural Le Mars; a brother, Ron of rural Le Mars; and several other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Terry Ludwigs, Troy Ludwigs, Keith Renken, Rick Renken, Jerry Ludwigs, and Darnell Ludwigs. Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Utesch and Kelly Plueger.
