Florentine M. Ruden
Florentine M. Ruden, 85, of Marcus, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at her residence in Marcus.
Florentine was born Oct. 13, 1919, at rural Remsen, the daughter of John and Amelia (Staab) Schreier. She grew up in the Remsen area, marrying Arnold Ruden on Jan. 16, 1940. After their marriage, they farmed southwest of Marcus and Remsen before moving to a farm north of Marcus in 1949. After Arnold died Aug. 15, 1987, Florentine continued to live on the family farm for several years before moving to town.
She loved spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards whenever the opportunity presented itself.
She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and St. Ann's Guild.
Survivors include two daughters, Margie Schroeder and her husband, Phil, of Remsen, and Kathy Steffen of Cherokee; six sons, Jim Ruden and his wife, Diane, Bob Ruden and his wife, Vickie, Rich Ruden and his wife, Debby, all of Marcus, Fred Ruden and his wife, Lois, of Taylor, Texas, Ron Ruden and his wife, Nadine of Hinton, and Denny Ruden of Sioux Center; one daughter-in-law Wendy (Ruden) Hauschildt, and her husband, Keith, of Marcus; 36 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; a son, Peter, who died in 1996; two sisters, Marie Ruden and Cordelia Holler; one brother, Gilbert; and a granddaughter, Jerrica.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Marcus, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home Tuesday.
