COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- Betty J. Mitchell, 76, of Cottage Grove, Ore., died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, following a lengthy illness.
The former Betty Walker was born March 23, 1928, in Sioux City, the daughter of Wellington and Olga Hansen Walker. She married John Edward Mitchell on July 13, 1944, in Vancouver, Wash. He died March 4, 1992.
She lived in the Cave Junction, Ore., area for about 20 years, then moved to Grants Pass, Ore. She had lived in Cottage Grove since the early 1990s.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing cards and games of chance.
Survivors include six sons, Robert of Cottage Grove, Ore., Marvin, Alvin and Tom, all of Grants Pass, Ore., Bill of Bend, Ore., and Tony of Yreka, Calif.; five daughters, Evelyn Gilmore of Creswell, Ore., Louise Kienel and Lila Faulkner, both of Myrtle Creek, Ore., Cheryl Johnson of Tigard, Ore., and Stephanie Amelung of Rice Hill, Ore.; 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alma Roddy Mayer; a brother and his wife, Matt and Lois Walker of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Lucille; a brother, Mickey; a nephew, Randy Walker; and two brothers-in-law, B.J. Roddy and Norbert Mayer.
No service is planned.
