Marvin Klein, 68, of Le Mars, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at The Abbey of Le Mars.
Marvin Joseph Klein was born March 25, 1936, in Granville, the son of Theodore and Mary (Hoffman) Klein. The family moved to Ashton, shortly after Marvin was born. In 1954, he graduated from St. Joseph's Parochial High School in Ashton.
Marvin was inducted in the United States Army on Oct. 11, 1956, at Sioux Falls, S.D. He trained as a radio operator and served overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged on June 27, 1958. He returned to the area where he operated a gravel truck. On Feb. 27, 1960, Marvin and Carol Reuter were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. They lived in Ashton for a year prior to moving to Sheldon. Marvin worked for Northern Bio-Chemical and Firestone Tire.
In 1965, Marvin and his family moved to Le Mars where he started his 28-year career with Wells' Dairy. He started as a route delivery driver and retired in 1993 from the warehouse division. He later moved to The Abbey of Le Mars in 2003.
Marvin was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sports fan who followed and enjoyed all types of athletics.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Klein and his wife, Cindy, of South Sioux City, Neb., and their daughter Gina; a daughter, Shelly Poeckes and her husband, Tom, of Le Mars and her children Bryan, Cory and Joshua Reuter; a daughter, Carla Helms and her special friend, Earl Irvin of Overland Park, Kan., and her children Nikki and Erin Helms; a daughter Deann Lawrence of Sioux City and her children Blake Laughton and Brandon Lawrence; a son, Steve Klein of Le Mars and his children Austin, Alex and Ashtyn Klein; a daughter, Kerri Riedemann and her husband, Steve, of Le Mars and their children Aric, Dustin, Jared and Jacob; a son, Dan Klein of Le Mars; a son Kyle Klein and his special friend Julie Strong of Yankton, S.D., and his children Jessica, MaKayla and Jordan Klein; a daughter, Jodi Sitzmann and her husband Zach of West Des Moines, and their children Gage and Elias; and a daughter, Jill Holzman and her husband, Travis, of Le Mars and their child Jace; three brothers, Leo Klein and his wife Margie, Richard Klein and his wife Georgia and Sylvester "Ves" Klein of all of Ashton; three sisters, Sylvia Blocker and her husband Ed of Bancroft, Christina Houwen of Ashton and Angela Dummitt of Britt; a sister-in-law, Sally Klein of Ashton
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Brad Reuter; brothers Edwin "Chuck", Louis, and Andrew Klein; brothers-in-law Bill Houwen, Bill Dummitt; and a sister-in-law, Joan Klein.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with military honors provided by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. The Rev. Kevin Richter will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. and a rosary service by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Tom Poeckes, Steve Riedemann, Travis Holzman, Earl Irvin, Zach Sitzmann, Aric Riedemann, Dustin Riedemann and Blake Laughton.
