Ray Colling, 88, of Remsen, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Ray Colling was born June 16, 1916, at rural Remsen, the son of William and Mary (Oswald) Colling. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. He was then engaged in farming with his father near Remsen.
On Sept. 28, 1942 he married Ruth Arens at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. They made their home in Remsen. He was a welder at Lundell Manufacturing in Cherokee for 17 years and then was a welder at Lenz's Manufacturing in Granville until he retired. He then worked part time at Mid-Sioux Opportunity in Remsen.
He had been a resident of Happy Siesta since May 2004.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Remsen and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Le Mars. He enjoyed being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, woodworking and was a true Braves fan.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Remsen; one daughter, Shirley and her husband, Joe Lewis, of Fort Dodge; one son, Dan and his wife, Julie, of Remsen; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen. Friends may call any time after 2 p.m. today (Friday), at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m.. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Casketbearers will be Scott Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Jody Lewis, Chris Colling, Travis Colling and Dustin Colling.
Honorary bearers will be Ron Colling, Dave Colling, Steve Colling and Chuck Colling.
