Evelyn J. Yelinek, 86, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
The former Evelyn J. Christopherson was born June 26, 1919, at Beresford, S.D. She moved with her family to Sioux Falls at the age of 3, where she grew up and received her education. Evelyn attended Washington High School, graduating in 1938, and continued her education at Augustana College, earning her teaching certificate in 1942.
On June 19, 1946, she was united in marriage with Raymond C. Yelinek at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Evelyn taught school for seven years in South Dakota Schools including Fairview Country School, Gregory, Canton, Lennox, and various elementary schools in Sioux Falls.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.
Survivors are her husband, Raymond, of Sioux Falls; one son, Steven of Le Mars; two grandchildren, Kirsten Nutter and her husband, Dan, and Jake Yelinek; and two great-grandchildren, Sam and Max Nutter; a cousin, Clarence Christopherson and his wife, Dottie, of Sioux Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one son, Jeffrey, who died in 1998.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.
