Harold Albert, 75, of Le Mars, died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Harold Ernest Albert was born May 17, 1929 on the family farm in Elgin Township, rural Plymouth County to Clarence E. and M. Grace (Nanninga) Albert. Harold attended country school at Elgin Township #4 school and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1946. Following high school, Harold farmed with his father on the family farm. Harold was united in marriage to M. Janice Becker on Oct. 9, 1953, at the Melbourne E.U.B. Church. Harold served his country in the United States Army from Oct. 20, 1953, to Oct. 19, 1955. Following his discharge from the service, Harold returned to the family farm. Harold and Janice have continued to farm in Elgin Township with their son, Dan.
Harold deeply loved his church. Throughout the years he has been involved as a Sunday School teacher, served on the Church Council, and assisted with Bible School. He has been involved with FFA where he was awarded the Iowa Farmer Degree.
Harold had served on board of directors of the Plymouth Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. and Plymouth County Farm Bureau for several years. He was also a 50-year Masonic member of the Floyd Lodge, was an Elgin Township Trustee for many years and volunteered at the Plymouth County Fair.
In 2000, Harold was recognized by the Plymouth County Farm Bureau for his "Outstanding Contribution to Agriculture."
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, M. Janice Albert; two daughters, Gayle Vonk and her husband Dennis and their children Allison, and her husband Jay Rolfes and Ashley Vonk, Lorraine DeJong and her husband, Joel,and their children, Kaitlin and Mackenzie; a son, Dan Albert and his wife, Julie, and their children Joseph, Matthew, and Michael, all of Le Mars; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Janice E. Albert of Le Mars; a brother-in-law, Herman Schulz of Le Mars; a step-sister, Ferne and her husband, Chuck Obye, of Sun City, Ariz.; a step-brother, Don Dunn of Peoria, Ariz.; brother-in-law, R. Gene Becker and his wife, Grace, of Hinton; a sister-in-law, Rae L. and her husband, James Nanninga of Ft. Dodge; an aunt, Maggie Mae Coppock of Mesa, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Schulz.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Seney United Methodist Church in Seney. Burial will be in the Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitations will be after 2 p.m. today (Friday) with family present to greet friends after 5 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Pallbearers will be Steve Albert, Scott Albert, Doug Becker, John Nanninga, Paul Nanninga, and Albert Schulz.
