Alvin H. Ludwigs, 82, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Alvin H. Ludwigs was born Dec. 24, 1921, on the family farm in Grant Township, Plymouth County, the son of John and Mary (Renken) Ludwigs. Alvin was raised on the farm and attended country school near his home. He continued to farm on the home place until 1971 when he moved to Le Mars with his mother and sister. In Le Mars he worked as a carpenter with Clarence Brunken until 1979. Alvin moved to Plymouth Manor Care Center on July 16, 2004.

Alvin was a lifelong resident of Plymouth County. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars and served on the church council. He later became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Alvin loved to farm and will be remembered as a neat and efficient manager. In town he liked to work with wood, garden, and he canned fruits and vegetables.

Alvin will be lovingly remembered by a sister-in-law Lillian (Mrs. Harry) Ludwigs of Le Mars; a nephew, David Ludwigs and his wife, Ramona of Le Mars; two nieces, Patricia Ann Plueger and her husband, Robert, and Anita Ann Meyers, and her husband, David, all of Le Mars; and many great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Harry J. Ludwigs; and a sister Adele Ludwigs.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery (Grant Township) rural Le Mars, Iowa with a luncheon to follow at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Friday) at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.

Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Kruse, Louis Westhoff, Arlan Heeren and Earl Frieden. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Meyers, Ryan Meyers, Robbie Trometer, Joe Grasz, Marty Plueger and Jeremy Sjovall.
