Josephine Haverhals, 75, of Sioux Center, died the morning of Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility.
Josephine Haverhals was born May 1, 1929, in Sioux Center, the daughter of John and Elsie (De Groot) Van Der Burg. She received her education through the eighth grade at Sioux Center Public School.
On July 29, 1947, she married Peter J. Haverhals Jr. at Sioux Center. They made their home on the Haverhals family farm where Josephine was a homemaker and also active with field work and chores.
Peter passed away in 1977 and son David in 1984. At that time Josephine moved to Sioux Center and enjoyed such hobbies as knitting, crocheting, reading, traveling and attending athletic events.
She was a member of the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church while living on the farm and of Bethel Christian Reformed Church after moving to town.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Gertrude and Gordon Blom of Sioux Center (Dan and Molly, Steve and Sally, Sara and Tim); son and daughter-in-law Peter John III and Anne of Lynnwood, Wash. (Michael, David); daughter-in-law Nora Haverhals of Sioux Center (Pete and Jody, Kim and Mike, Sheri); daughter JoAnn Dekkenga of Le Mars; granchildren, Steve, Sally, Sara and Tim Blom, Michael and David John, and Pete, Jody, Kim, Mike and Sheri Haverhals, and Katie, Kinzie and Kolby Dekkenga; two great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Charles Brown of Foley, Ala., and members of the Haverhals family: Grace Dekkers of Hawarden, Gertie and Melvin Bonnema and Rena Dragstra of Sioux Center, Fannie Haverhals of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Allen and Dreaka Boeve of Hastings, Neb.; and Adelene Haverhals of Lynden, Wash.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Peter, son Willard and son David, a sister Pearl, an infant brother John and her sister Ann Vander Ploeg.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Stephen Rhoda officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
