Richard G. 'Dick' Moir

Richard G. "Dick" Moir, 68, of Le Mars, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Richard Glenn Moir was born July 21, 1936, in Le Mars, the son of Glenn A. and Evelyn (Dixson Baldwin) Moir. Dick attended Sherman Township School #1 and graduated from Maurice High School in 1955. He continued his education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and Westmar College in Le Mars.

In 1957 Dick enlisted in the Iowa National Guard. He served as a 1st Sgt. with companies in Le Mars and Sheldon for 12 years. On June 15, 1959, Dick and Audra Kipp were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Dick and his family farmed on a Century Farm in Sherman Township, Sioux County, until 1986. He also worked at Lampert's Lumberyard, operated Dick's Woodworking and worked at Wells' Dairy, Inc. and Bowers Clothing.

Dick loved repairing and restoring antiques as well as custom projects. Many will remember that Dick built the altar and lectern from a communion rail at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble. In his younger years, Dick enjoyed playing baseball and basketball and played the trumpet in the Maurice Band. He also enjoyed singing in school, at the Seney Methodist Church, and for special occasions. Dick bowled for many years and was an avid golfer.

Dick was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, past member of Seney United Methodist Church in Seney, and a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble. He was also a member of the Elks Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion and served as president of the Aerie 1381 Eagles Club from 1979-1981.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years Audra of Le Mars; a son, Mark and his wife, Laura of Sunset, Utah, daughter Lynn Bush and her husband, Dennis of Sabina, Ohio, a son, Michael and his wife, Paula of Milford,, a daughter, Leigh Turner and her husband, Doyle of Moville, and a son, David and his fiancÚ, Jodi Konz of Le Mars; 11 grandchildren, Terra and Grace Moir, Emily Farrar, Matthew Bush, Coty and Erin Moir, Chase, Grant, Delaney and Pierce Turner and Drew Moir; a sister, Janice Albert and her husband, Earl of Le Mars, a sister-in-law Anna Mae Sitzman of South Sioux City, Neb.; a brother-in-law, Gene Kipp and his wife Kathleen of Le Mars; and a sister-in-law, Kay Black and her husband, Mike of Topack, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Evelyn; and mother and father-in-law G.A. and Lena Kipp.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Kevin Richter will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Mark Moir, Michael Moir, David Moir, Dennis Bush, Doyle Turner, Matthew Bush and Coty Moir.
