Iva M. Wessels, 82, of Le Mars was called to her eternal home on Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
Iva Mildred Ehlers was born Nov. 19, 1921, on the family farm southwest of Ireton, the daughter of Carl and Florence "Flossie" (Whitney) Ehlers. Iva was baptized into the Methodist faith and later in life was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. She attended country school and later graduated from Hawarden High School.
Iva was united in marriage on Jan. 10, 1943, to Leonard "G.C." Wessels at Ireton. The couple operated the I & L Pub in Ireton for several years. Leonard and Iva farmed the Whitney family farm northwest of Craig from 1957 to 1983, when they moved to Le Mars.
Iva was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she enjoyed participating in church activities. She enjoyed cooking and canning, playing cards and visiting with friends.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Raquel and her husband, Paul Kolker of Le Mars; a grandson Joshua Wessels of Anaheim, Calif.; a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Kolker, of Le Mars and dear friend, Rosanne Hoss and her husband, Jim of Merrill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Flossie Ehlers; her husband Leonard on April 22, 1995; and a son, Arnold Wessels on March 26, 1980.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Paul Kolker, Gary Kolker, Myron Kolker, Jim Hoss, Richard Wilkens, and Jim Schoenrock.
