Celeste M. Huewe, 97, of Dubuque, and formerly of Remsen, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.
The former Celeste M. Freymann was born Feb. 2, 1907, at Dubuque, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Sweeney) Freymann. Celeste graduated from Sacred Heart Nursing School in 1930 and worked as a registered nurse for 50 years at Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars, and the former Xavier Hospital in Dubuque.
On Dec. 28, 1931, she married Gerland Huewe at Remsen where they made their home. Gerland died Jan. 1, 1961. Celeste moved to Dubuque in 1964. She was a volunteer at Mercy Health Center in Dubuque.
She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church and their Rosary Society in Dubuque, Catholic Daughters of America and Christian Mothers at St. Mary's parish in Remsen and their Altar and Rosary Society.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Philip and Shirley of Salem, Ore., and Robert and Margy of Walker, Minn.; one daughter, Sister Helen Huewe O.S.F., of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kathleen Schultz of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Kathleen Mary who died at birth; three brothers, Lewis, Virgil and Aloysius Freymann; and two sisters, Grace Marie Freymann and an infant sister Eileen.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Nativity Catholic Church in Dubuque with the Rev. Mark Ressler of Dubuque and the Rev. Timothy Johnson of Remsen officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Remsen.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home in Dubuque. Visitation will resume Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen with graveside services following in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen.
