WEBSTER CITY -- Irene Richards, 87, of Webster City, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at the Southfield Wellness Community.
Irene Emma Klein, was born Oct. 28, 1916, at Alden, the daughter of Ferdinand and Augusta Lange Klein. She received her education from the Alden schools. On May 28, 1951, she married Lee Bolton Richards at Alden. The couple resided in Webster City. She was employed as a store clerk for over 18 years at JCPenneys in Webster City, until retiring in 1984. She had been a resident at Southfield Wellness Community since June 2003.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was active in the ladies aid and various other church circles. Irene loved to cook and spend time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Lee; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sylvia Richards of Des Moines, Kevin and Dawn Richards of Le Mars; grandchildren, Nicholas Paige and Michael Richards of Des Moines, Ian, Colin and Evan Richards of Le Mars; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna Sanders, Lillian Locke, Doris and Maynard Rieks, all of Iowa Falls, Esther Pfeffer of Cedar Rapids; brother and sister-in-law, Irvin (Bud) and Mavis Klein of Iowa Falls; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anna Kastendick and Elsa Klein; brothers, William in infancy, Fred, Paul, Frank, Herman, Walter and Robert Klein.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alden, with the Rev. Travis Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the Alden Cemetery in Alden. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral & Cremation Center in Webster City.
