John R. Schnieders, 43, of Le Mars and formerly of Remsen, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
John R. Schnieders was born Oct. 10, 1960, in Le Mars, the son of Robert and Helen (Hansen) Schnieders. John was raised in Remsen and attended special education classes at Kingsley until the age of 12. He then lived and received his education at Hope Haven School in Rock Valley until the age of 18. From 1978 until 1990, he lived and worked at Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon. Since 1990, he had been living in Le Mars and was working at Life Skills Training Center in Le Mars. He was awarded several medals from the Iowa Special Olympics.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters, both of Remsen.
Survivors include his mother, Helen Schnieders of Remsen; two brothers and their wives, Richard and Beth of Houston, Texas and Ken and Sallie of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Chris Schnieders of Monrovia, Calif., and Cathy Schnieders and her husband, Mark Fliecher, M.D., of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call any time after 2 p.m. today (Friday) at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by the Catholic Order of Foresters, all at the funeral home.
Casket bearers will be Donald Kolker, Duane Majeres, Rod Salazar, Marshall Schnieders, Bernard Thiel and Henry Vornbrock.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Life Skills Training Center in Le Mars.
