Iona Ruby Blackmore, 79, of Thornton, Colo., and formerly of Le Mars, died March 27, 2003, at ElmsHaven Nursing Home in Thornton, Colo.
Iona Ruby Klave was born May 31, 1923, in Le Mars, the daughter of Fred and Rose (Schmidt) Klave. While living in Le Mars, Iona worked at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center. She later moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., to be closer to family. Her husband Merlin died June 8, 1980. More recently she had been a resident at ElmsHaven Nursing Home in Thornton, Colo.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Groetken of Denver, Colo.; two sons, Kenneth Blackmore of Henderson, Nev., and his wife, Mary, and Duane Blackmore and his wife, Jean, of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anita Berkenpas of Le Mars, and Joan Trometer of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlin; two sisters, Irene and Bernice; and four brothers, Marvin, Lawrence, Vernon and Don; and a great-grandson, Jesse. A son-in-law, Cletus Groetken, died June 2, 2003.
A graveside service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at the Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. The Rev. Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
