Elizabeth A. "Betty" Crawford, 78, of Merrill, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Betty Crawford was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Onawa, the daughter of Oliver M. and Leona I. (Hansen) Wilson. She was raised in the Turin/Onawa area. On May 3, 1945, she married Donald D. Crawford in Denison. After their marriage, the couple settled in the Whiting area and then moved to Oto in 1954. They had lived in Merrill since 1965.

Betty was employed at Zenith Corp. for 13 years. She was a member of Merrill United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Merrill Saddle Club for many years.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed horseback riding and camping in the mountains.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Donald; five daughters, Pat Corrie and her husband, Bob, of Oto, Donna Thompson and her husband, Mel, of Belton, Mo., Barbara Krohn and her husband, Mark, of Sioux City, Susan Crawford and her husband, Tom, of Merrill, and Lynn Crawford of Glenrock, Wyo.; seven grandchildren, Donald Poulson and his wife, Elizabeth, Stacey Poulson and his wife, Wendy, Michelle Olsen, Todd Poulson and his wife, Janelle, Daniel Krohn, John Woodard and his wife, Janyce, and Donald Woodard; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Wilson and his wife, Arlene, of Sergeant Bluff; two sisters, Marge Lorenzen of Washta and Argene Meyers and her husband, Larry, of Correctionville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gene; and a sister Louise and brother Robert, both in infancy.

Memorial services were at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at United Methodist Church in Merrill with the Rev. Benjamin Meeks officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City was in charge of arrangements.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren.
