Michayla Bates, 6-year-old daughter of Michael and Trinity Bates of Ireton died Tuesday, July 27, 3004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Tuesday near Ireton.
Michayla Lain Bates was born April 17, 1998 in Sioux City, Iowa to Michael and Trinity (Smykle) Bates. In 1999, the family moved to an acreage near Ireton, Iowa. Michayla and her family are members of the Assembly of God Church in Le Mars. Michayla loved to go to church and Sunday school. She enjoyed fishing with her family and playing on the swing-set on the acreage. Michayla loved to learn. This past year she was in kindergarten in Mrs. Harris' class at Akron. She loved her classmates and teacher very much. She liked to draw and color and play with her Barbie dolls.
Michayla often would remind those close to her that, "Jesus loves you and so do I."
Survivors include her mom and dad, Michael and Trinity (Smykle) Bates of Ireton; two brothers, Landon, age 10, and Joseph, age 4; her maternal and paternal grandparents, Mark and Mindy Smykle of Akron and Wayne and LoAnne Bates of Merrill; great-grandparents, Kenneth and Joyce Smykle of Valley Springs, S.D., and Paula Leekley of Salida, Colo.; several aunts and uncles, Paula Smykle of Akron, Whitney Wallace of Huntersville, N.C., Todd and Tanya Bates and their daughter, Harlie of Le Mars, and Kevin and Beth Bates and their son, Matthew of Le Mars; great-aunts and uncles, Walt and Bonnie Macklem of Merrill, LeRoy and Joan Bates of Bronson, Larry Marbach of Brookings, S.D., and Lynell Marbach of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and her godparent, Matt Doyle of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Scott Leekley, Lowell and Anna Marbach, and Loran and Jessie Bates.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ (858 Seventh Ave. S.E.) in Le Mars with Pastor Dan Krause of the Assembly of God Church of Le Mars officiating. Interment will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Friday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 7 p.m. prayer service Friday evening at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Bates, Todd Bates, Matt Doyle, and Matt Steeg. Honorary pallbearers will be Walt Macklem, Lyle Copenhaver, Cory Osterbuhr, Mark Bolie, and Leonard Farnham.
