MAPLETON -- Remsen-Union's offense came ready to play against Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto, but their defense had its troubles as the Lady Rockets lost 17-5 in four innings in softball action Tuesday night in Mapleton.

MVAO scored three runs in the first and nine runs in the second to put the game away early against R-U.

R-U had five hits, led by Krystal Gotto who went 2-for-3 with a double. Natalie McManus went 1-for-3, Hope Weiler was 1-3 with a triple and Joanie Loutsch contributed going 1-for-2.

The Lady Rockets played well offensively, but the defense committed five errors that contributed to the loss.

Youde said the errors are uncharacteristic of her team.

"We made a lot of mental mistakes on defense again. In the second inning when they got nine runs, only four of them were earned," Youde said. "We just threw the ball around tonight and that's not good. They (MVAO) have aggressive baserunners and we didn't handle that pressure very well tonight at all. We hit the ball, but just weren't getting it done on defense."

Erica Loutsch pitched four innings, allowing 10 earned runs on 13 hits and seven walks while striking out one batter.

Next up for R-U (1-2) is the Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn tournament this weekend.
