Viola A. Hoefling, 95, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
The former Viola Armella Meyen was born Sept. 13, 1908, at Remsen, the daughter of Fred and Lena (Mai) Meyen. She was raised and educated in Remsen, graduating from St. Mary's Catholic High School. She received her teacher's certificate from Morningside College in Sioux City.
On March 18, 1932, Viola Meyen married Laurence Hoefling at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple lived most of their married lives in the Le Mars area. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Her husband Laurence died Dec. 14, 1971.
Mrs. Hoefling was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed quilting and had more than 100 quilts through the years. She also enjoyed playing cards and visits from family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Fred Hoefling and his wife, Clarice of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two daughters: Mary Ann Shaw Vlieger, and Beverly Vore.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. William McCarthy presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. Friday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. A Scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
