Max Willoughby Ashmore, 91, of Albany, Mo., and formerly of Le Mars, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003.
Max was born May 29, 1912, in Correctionville, the son of Earl and Ella Blanche Ashmore.
On April 11, 1936, he was united in marriage to Doris Madison. She preceded in him in death on Feb. 7, 2000.
Max graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars with a teacher's degree. He worked for the Iowa Department of Corrections at Fort Madison and then taught at Gillette Grove, Holstein, Arnolds Park and Le Mars. After retiring from teaching in Le Mars, he obtained his realtor's license and sold real estate in Arnolds Park. Upon retirement, Max and Doris made their home in Kimberling City, Mo., where they were very active in the Methodist Church.
Max was a member of the Masons and many other organizations.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane; one brother, Richard Morgan and his wife; three sister-in-laws, four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years; his parents; a son, David; two brothers, Edward and Norman; one sister, Edna; and one half-sister, Ellen.
A memorial service for Max and Doris will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Correctionville (Iowa) Cemetery.
