La Eva 'Babe' Kolker

La Eva "Babe" Kolker, 70, of Le Mars, died unexpectedly Thursday May 6, 2004, at her home in Le Mars.

The former La Eva Wilberding was born June 8, 1933, in Remsen, the daughter of Francis "Dingy" and Marie (Knott) Wilberding. She grew up in the town of Marcus and graduated from Holy Name Catholic High School. Babe then attended business school at A.B.I. in Sioux City and was employed with Windcharger. On June 8, 1954, La Eva Wilberding married Donald Kolker at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Following their marriage the couple, lived in Sioux City for several years and then moved to Le Mars in the early 1960s.

Over the years, Babe had been employed with various businesses in Le Mars including Gambles, Cora Hilger, Sieverding-Walsh Hardware, Timmy's Catering, and recently with Hardware Hank.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Babe was an avid gardener and homemaker and enjoyed canning and baking cookies.

Survivors include three children: Steve Kolker and his wife, Janet, of Le Mars, Linda Flakne and her husband, David, of Madison, Wis., and Denise Olson and her husband, Rob, of Monument, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Mike Kolker of Omaha, Neb., and David Kolker of Wayne, Neb., Kyle, Kayla, and Chad Flakne of Madison, Wis., and Cameron and Courtney Olson of Monument, Colo.; a sister, Sandy Wilberding of Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Shaun and Sydney Olson; two sisters, Joan Barry and Sharon Hueser; and a nephew, Randy Hueser.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Friends may call anytime after 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. A Parish rosary will be at 4 p.m. and the Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
