Pearl R. Brown, 85, of Akron, died Monday, April 26, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.
Pearl R. Brown was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Remsen, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Lanners) Nitzschke. She graduated from Remsen High School. On Dec. 22, 1942, she married Andrew Brown in Remsen. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, where she belonged to the L.C.W. She also was a member of the T.O.P.S. Club. In her free time, she loved to bake, read, embroider and work in her flower and vegetable gardens. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, which were her pride and joy of her life.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Alen and Laurene of Akron; a daughter, Paulette Fletcher of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Lella and Lowry Smith of Arizona; five grandchildren, Kim and her husband, Scott Soule of Sioux City, Stephanie and her husband, Tod Strudthoff of Ames, Jamie Brown and her special friend, Matt Winkler of Sioux City, Tom Brown and his special friend, Sue Fullmer of Illinois, and and Bradley Brown and his wife, Sabrina, of Alcester, S.D.; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Lester and Paul Nitzschke; a sister, Fern Klemme; a grandson, Tim Brown, and a son-in-law, Roger Fletcher.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ernest M. Caltvedt officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday), with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Scott Soule, Tom Brown, Tod Strudthoff, Bradley Brown, Matt Winkler and Don Bertram.
