HAWARDEN -- Ruth Jaqua, 69, of Hawarden, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, due to a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her family at her home in Hawarden.
Ruth was born May 28, 1934, to Floyd and Gladys (Rue) Giffin in Ruthton, Minn. She married Glen Jaqua on June 19, 1949, in Holland, Minn. Together they farmed near Pipestone, Minn., moving to Hawarden in 1965. In 1977, they moved to Lexington, Neb., and then back to Hawarden in 1995.
Being a homemaker, Ruth took great pride and joy being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Glen; one son, Larry "Butch" (Bonnie) Jaqua of Sioux City; five daughters: Sharon (Roger) Henry of Tyler, Texas, Vicky Mortensen and friend, Gary Carlson, of Sioux City, Cheryl Kimble and friend, John Risty, of Le Mars, Sandy (Dale) Gilyard of Alexandria, Minn., and Patricia (Scott) Kirkegaard of Hastings, Neb.; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Bob Giffin of Williams, Minn., Roger Giffin of Hudson, S.D., and Kenny (Kay) Giffin of Akron; three sisters: Holly (Gary) Schoenrock of Atlantic, Avis Jager of Hawarden, and Karen (Keith) Newman of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Fern Giffin of Austin, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Gladys Giffin; grandson, Jay Mortensen; great-granddaughter, Audrey Rose Sitzmann; brothers: Duaine and Daryl Giffin and parents-in-law, Raymond and Marie Jaqua.
Her wish was to be cremated. The memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
