Alvina M. Krantz, 83, of Granville, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen following a lengthy illness.
The former Alvina M. Schlichte was born May 8, 1920, at rural Hospers, the daughter of John and Anna (Kanngiesser) Schlichte. She was raised and educated in the Hospers area. On Jan. 25, 1944, she married Elmer Krantz at Hospers. They lived and farmed in the Hospers and Granville area until 1971 when they retired and moved into Granville. She cooked for many years at Spalding School and the Plathe Café and later the Home Plate Café, all in Granville. Elmer died Sept. 14, 1979.
Alvina was a resident of Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City, for about one-and-one-half years and then on May 1, 2002, she entered the Happy Siesta Health Care Center.
She loved to quilt, play bingo and spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville and the church Guild.
Survivors include one son, John and his wife, Norma, of Granville; three daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann and Roger Pottebaum, Janet and Denny Bruns all of Alton, Linda and Alan Loutsch of Le Mars; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one stepbrother, Clarence Stallmann of Sheldon.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; twin sons, Ron and Roger in infancy; one son-in-law, Ron Reuter; and one grandson, Jeff Reuter.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville with Msgr. Kenneth Seifried officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery at Granville. Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. Friday, with a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville. The Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.
Casketbearers will be her grandchildren, Paula Roder, Jason Pottebaum, Michael Krantz, Kristy Beltman, Jennifer Krantz, Sara Reuter, Jenna Reuter, Amy Beying and Rick Loutsch.
