Bessie Disney, 103, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Bessie Grothe was born March 31, 1901, in Oklahoma, the daughter of Sam and Annie (Johnson) Grothe. Bessie was raised near Cheyenne, Wyo. She was united in marriage to Frank Raymond on June 21, 1921 at Rawlins, Wyo. They lived in San Pablo, Calif., and later moved to Grants Pass, Ore. Bessie was later married to Jim Disney in November 1948 at Reno, Nev. Jim died May 22, 1984.
Bessie moved to Le Mars in 1998 to be near her daughter, Martha Smith. In August 2002, at the age of 101, Bessie moved to Plymouth Manor Care Center.
Through the years, Bessie enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, and going fishing.
Survivors include her two daughters, Martha Smith of Le Mars and Margaret Heitz of Gold Hill, Ore.; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Lolly Raymond of Little Sioux; 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 63 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Frank Raymond and Jim Disney; a son, Albert Earl Raymond; two grandchildren, Lucky Rolfes and Rusty Williams; and three brothers and seven sisters.
Graveside services will be 11:15 a.m. Friday at Graceland Cemetery near Blencoe, Iowa. Visitations will be after 10 a.m. Friday morning at the Rush Funeral Home in Onawa. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.
