Magdalen Rolfes

Magdalen M. Rolfes, 87, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at her home in Le Mars, following a courageous battle with cancer.

The former Magdalen Marie Theisen was born July 5, 1916, at Oyens, the daughter of John and Frances (Gengler) Theisen. She was raised in Oyens and attended St. Catherine's Parochial School. Magdalen married Othmar Rolfes on April 22, 1936, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for a few years and then moved into Le Mars, where they were both employed in the custodial service department at Westmar College in Le Mars. Her husband Othmar died July 23, 1983.

Magdalen was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, the Christian Mothers Society, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

In her later years, Maggie enjoyed playing cards with the Catholic Ladies Club. Most recently, she enjoyed the visits and care by Jane and Rhonda from Hospice of Siouxland.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Jeanette and Jim McCann of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Marcy and A.L. "Nick" Lehmann of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons and their wives, Chuck and Loretta Rolfes of Durand, Mich., and Dean and Mary Pat Rolfes of St. Peters, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Theisen of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Othmar Rolfes; and two daughters: Marilyn Nichols and Darlene Rolfes.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. William McCarthy as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Pallbearers will be six grandsons: Jeff McCann, Joe McCann, Nick Lehmann, Doug Lehmann, Tod Nichols, and Cory Rolfes.

Friends may call anytime after 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. A Christian Mothers rosary will be at 4 p.m., the Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. and a Catholic Daughters rosary at 8 p.m., all at the funeral home Wednesday.
