Karen Joy Anderson, 58, of Des Moines and formerly of Remsen, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at her home in Des Moines.
Karen Joy Anderson was born March 29, 1945, at Greeley, Colo., the daughter of Robert and Alice (Peterson) Johnson. Karen moved with her family to Marathon, when a young child where she was raised and educated graduating from high school in 1963. She then moved to Des Moines. On Aug. 1, 1970, she married Dale Anderson at Omaha, Neb. They made their home at Waukee. In 1971 they moved to Independence, and in 1974 to Remsen. Dale died Sept. 17, 1993, and their son Douglas died Nov. 12, 1995. Karen and her family moved to Des Moines in 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, Victoria and her husband, Ervin E. Rea III, and their son, Ervin Ellis Rea IV, all of Chillicothe, Mo., Kim Anderson of Des Moines; her mother, Alice Johnson of Des Moines; her fiance, Andy Powell of Des Moines; two sisters-in-law, Linda Hart and her family of Des Moines and Monica Anderson and her family of Maryville, Mo.; Mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Robert Anderson of Dayton; several stepchildren and stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her father, Robert Johnson; one sister in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Barry Anderson.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Lutheran Church of Hope in Des Moines with the Rev. Merv Thompson officiating. Visitation was Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Southtown Funeral Home in Des Moines.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Remsen City Cemetery in Remsen with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating.
The Southtown Funeral Home at Des Moines and Fisch Funeral Home at Remsen, are in charge of arrangements.
