Florence M. Treinen, 96, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
The former Florence Mary Kontz was born Jan. 25, 1908, at Alton, the daughter of James and Anna (Noethe) Kontz. She grew up in the Alton vicinity and attended St. Mary's Academy, graduating in 1926. Florence then taught in rural schools in Sioux County for nine years. She married Clarence Treinen on April 2, 1935, in Alton. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed in the Kingsley area until 1972, when they moved to Le Mars. Her husband, Clarence, died Oct. 27, 1977.
Mrs. Treinen was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Rosary Society and had been a longtime member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Ave Maria #685 in Kingsley.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Robert Treinen and his wife, Sharon, of Ackley; a daughter-in-law, Frances Treinen of Ankeny; three grandchildren: Ann Treinen of Long Beach, Calif., Dr. Carol Huang and her husband, Jeff, of San Jose, Calif., David Treinen and his wife, Karen, of Johnston; two step-grandchildren, Alan Nilsson of Sacramento, Calif., and Elizabeth Halder and her husband, Neal, of Ankeny: two great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Elliot Treinen of Johnston; three step-great-grandchildren: Emily, Zachary, and Mathew Halder of Ankeny; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1977; a son, Thomas in 1992; five brothers; and five sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges as celebrant. Burial will be in Le Mars Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. Friday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. A parish rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and the Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
