Stella Van Wyhe, 82, of Windsor, Colo., and formerly of Ireton, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at her home in Windsor.
Stella Ruiter was born May 28, 1921, at Platte, S.D., the daughter of John and Grace (Pranger) Ruiter. Stella was united in marriage to Elmer Van Wyhe in Grand Rapids, Mich.. Stella and Elmer began farming near Ireton in 1946. Elmer died in September 1980. In the mid-1980s, Stella moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. In 1985, she moved to Windsor, Colo.
Stella enjoyed playing golf and Scrabble, traveling, needlework, and was an avid bridge player. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Drenda and John Thoen of Windsor, Colo.; four sons, Orrin Van Wyhe of Greeley, Colo., Allen Van Wyhe and his wife, Kathy, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kevin Van Wyhe and his wife, Jane, and Gary Van Wyhe and his wife, Deb, all of Farmington, Ark.; two sisters, June Hoeksema and Helen Penning of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a brother, Gerrit Ruiter of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents, John and Grace Ruiter; her husband, Elmer on Sept. 20, 1980; and a sister, Emily Groelsema.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig with the Rev. Pete Petersen officiating. Burial of the ashes will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present to greet friends after 6 p.m. Friday evening followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m.
