MOUNTAIN LAKE, Minn. -- Raymond H. Duerksen, 75, of Mountain Lake, Minn., died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.
Raymond H. Duerksen was born Nov. 20, 1928, in Frazier, Mont., the son of Abraham H. and Mathilda (Koch) Duerksen. He attended school in Delft, country school, and Mountain Lake Public School. Ray worked for various farmers in the Delft area.
In September 1951, Ray entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany. Following his honorable discharge in December 1952, Ray worked for the Springfield Hatchery in Mountain Lake.
On June 24, 1956, Ray married Mary Josephine McDonald in Mountain Lake. Ray had worked for Land O' Lakes and worked as a pipe fitter and welder, including several projects in Le Mars.
He was a member of the Mountain Lake American Legion. Ray enjoyed fishing, gardening, sports, reading, and listening to music.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Duerksen of Mountain Lake; two children, Steven and his wife, Gretchen Duerksen, and their children Kendrick and Emily of Little Canada, Minn., and Kurt and his wife, Kellene, and their children Adam, Buchman, Anne-Marie, and Kathryn of St. Louis Park, Minn.; brothers and sisters, Lorraine and her husband, Roland Frey of Williams Bay, Wis., Nina Huff of Branson, Mo., Milton Duerksen of Delft, Minn., Melvin Duerksen of Windom, Minn., Dorothy and her husband, Ernest Deutchman, of Windom, Minn., and Kenneth Duerksen of Windom, Minn.
He was preceded in death his parents, one sister and brother-in-law, Verlette and Vernun Taber; one brother, Merle Duerksen; and a brother and sisters-in-law - Lyle Huff, Georgine Duerksen, and Bonnie Duerksen.
Memorial services were at 1:30 p.m. MOnday at the Community Bible Church in Mountain Lake, with burial in Mountain Lake Cemetery. The Bjerum Funeral Home of Mountain Lake was in charge of arrangements.
