Robert O. Keffeler, 68, of Le Mars and formerly of Remsen, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars of complications from pneumonia.
Robert O. Keffeler was born April 4, 1935, at rural Remsen, the son of Clarence and Rose Marie (Schmitz) Keffeler. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School from which he graduated in 1953. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Denver, Colo., Madison, Wis., and Newfoundland.
He worked for various trucking firms throughout his lifetime including Arens and Jaminet Trucking and Bituminous, all of Remsen, Wells' Dairy of Le Mars, Adams Truck Lines of Council Bluffs, and Herman Brothers Truck Lines of Louisville, Neb. Bob enjoyed truck driving and drove coast-to-coast.
Survivors include his mother, Rose Marie of Remsen; one brother, Jim and his wife, Jeanne of La Veta, Colo.; two sisters and their husbands, Rosie and Jim Staab and Mary and Paul Ahlers all of Remsen; three nieces, Tammy Keffeler and her husband, Tom Lemcke of Arvada, Colo., Amanda and Jessica Ahlers, both of Remsen; six nephews, Mike and his wife, Robin Keffeler of Longmont, Colo., John and his wife, Erin Staab of Champaign, Ill., Nick and his wife, Deb Staab of Marcus, Mark Staab of Remsen, Matt Ahlers of Ankeny and Steve Ahlers of Ames
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; and one nephew, Lucas Ahlers.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen.
Friends may call any time after 2 p.m. today (Friday), at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Casketbearers will be Don, Jerry, Joe and Mike Keffeler, Nick Staab and Steve Ahlers.
