Andrea 'Andie' Phillips

PIERSON -- Andrea Jean "Andie" Phillips, 13, of Pierson, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, as a result of a snowmobile accident.

She was born Aug. 8, 1990, in Sioux City, the daughter of Darwin and Jackie (Kovarna) Phillips. Andie was a straight "A" student. She loved reading her books, playing with her cousins and her dogs. Andie was involved in choir and jazz choir, played the trumpet in the band, played the piano, and was involved in dance, tap, jazz and clogging. She played volleyball and was a member of Pierson Handy Helpers 4-H club. She attended United Methodist Church of Pierson. She enjoyed going on vacations with her family. She collected angels and teddy bears.

When she grew up she wanted to a lawyer.

Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Darwin and Jackie (Kovarna) Phillips, one sister, Jenna Phillips, at home; her maternal grandparents, Howard and Marjorie Kovarna of Merrill; her paternal grandparents Claude and Martha Phillips of Pierson; aunts and uncles Jean (Kovarna) Larson of Sioux City, Doug and Rhonda Kovarna of Hinton, Albert and Barb Phillips of Spencer, Vicky and Ron Hiemstra of Springfield, Mo., Chuck and Cheryl Phillips of Apple Valley, Minn.; 10 cousins, and seven great-cousins; and many friends and seventh grade classmates of Kingsley-Pierson School.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kingsley-Pierson School gymnasium in Pierson. Officiating will be the Rev. Bill Cotton of Pierson Methodist Church, the Rev. Thomas J. Topf of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kingsley, the Rev. Cecil Dale of the Kingsley Baptist Church, and the Rev. Duane Miesner of First Lutheran Church, Kingsley. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Pierson. Visitation begins after 4 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Kingsley Methodist Church, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. The Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home of Kingsley is in charge of arrangements.
