WEST DES MOINES -- James R. (J.R.) Grenier, 46, of West Des Moines, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Kavanagh on Grand in West Des Moines of brain cancer.
James R. Grenier was born June 30, 1957, in Carroll. The family later moved to Le Mars, where J.R. attended Gehlen Catholic Schools, graduatiing in 1975. He graduated from Iowa State University.
On Oct. 22, 1983, J.R. was united in marriage with Sue Stapleton in Jefferson. They resided in Ames before moving to Des Moines in 1984. Prior to early retirement due to his illness, he was employed as a residential framing carpenter.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in West Des Moines.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; his mother, Joyce Grenier of Le Mars; a sister, Deborah Elliott and her husband, Chuck, of Salisbury, N.C.; three brothers, Bruce Grenier and his wife, Beckie of Clive, John Grenier of Indianpolis, Ind., and David Grenier and his wife, Shelly, of Ankeny; his mother and father-in-law, Mary and Henry Stapleton of Clive; a brother-in-law, Craig Stapleton and his wife, Shirley, of Jefferson; three sisters-in-law, Lynn Steele of West Des Moines, Ann Schmidt and her husband, Ken, of Ames, and Jane Stroud of Adel; eight nieces and five nephews; and best friend, "Murphy."
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Grenier.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today (Tuesday) at McLaren's Funeral Chapel in West Des Moines, with a rosary and vigil service to follow.
Memorials may be made to Gehlen Catholic Schools in Le Mars, or Hospice of Central Iowa in West Des Moines.
