Raymond A. Norton, 92, of Akron, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center in Akron.

Raymond Alvin Norton was born May 9, 1911, in Plymouth County, the son of Egbert and Fayette (Fletcher) Norton. He attended rural school in Plymouth County.

On Feb. 4, 1935, he married Dorothy Newman at the Full Gospel Mission in Le Mars. Mr. Norton farmed all his life in Plymouth County in the Merrill, Brunsville, Le Mars and Akron areas. The couple sold their farm east of Akron in 1975 and retired to Sioux City, and later Akron. Mrs. Norton died in September 1999. After his wife's death, Raymond lived in Akron until June 2000 when he moved to Bellevue, Neb. In October 2002, he moved to the Akron Care Center where he enjoyed the visits of family and friends.

Mr. Norton was a member of First Baptist church where he was an honorary deacon of the church.

Survivors include one son, Donald Norton and his wife, Naomi of Bellevue, Neb.; five daughters, H. Carol Sattoriva of Great Falls, Mont., Betty and her husband, Sig Stenlund of Boulder, Colo., Joyce and her husband, Larry Madsen, of Sioux City, Judith and her husband, Terry Kenealy of York, Neb., and Sheryl and her husband, Glenn Rippke, of Ames; one brother, Herb Norton and his wife, Mary, of Loveland, Colo.; one sister, Marjorie Braun of Denver, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Lloyd Norton and Ward Norton; and two sisters, Opel Norton and Vivian Orban.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Akron with Pastor Larry Madsen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 2 to 8:30 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, with the family present from 6 to 8:30 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Steve Norton, Scott Norton, Danny McCamley, Randy McCamley, Rick McCamley, David Madsen, Gordy Johnson, Heath Johnson, Joe Rippke, Dale Anson, Ed McGee, Mike Turner, Jeff Jones, Matt Dendy, Brett Urban, Tim Kohn and Dwaine Purdy.
