MARCUS -- Joseph E. Weber, 80, of Marcus, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.
Joseph E. Weber was born Oct. 3, 1923, in rural Marcus, the son of Amos and Agnes (Collins) Weber. He grew up in the Marcus area. After graduating from Marcus High School in 1940, he attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux City.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to the Marcus area.
On Aug. 28, 1951, he married Florentine Reistroffer at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens. He lived and farmed south of Marcus until his retirement. The couple lived on the farm until 1982, at which time they moved into Marcus.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Florentine Weber of Marcus; five sons, Jim Weber and his wife, Sue, of Verona, Wis., Bob Weber and his wife, Eileen, of Cottage Grove, Minn., Dick Weber and his wife, Cheryl, of Marcus, John Weber and his wife, Carla, of Marcus, and Chuck Weber of Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Kathy Weber Paulson and her husband, Larry, of Plymouth, Minn.; numerous grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Delperdang and her husband, Francis, of Marcus and Lois Even and her husband, Jay, of Alton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tom; a sister, Mary Augustine; and a daughter-in-law, Julie (Payne) Weber.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Thursday), with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at the Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus.
