URBANA, Ill. -- Roger R. Yoerger, 74, of Urbana, Ill., died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at 7:45 p.m. at Provena Covenant Medical Center.
Roger R. Yoerger was born Feb. 17, 1929, at Le Mars, the son of Raymond and Crystal (Ward) Yoerger. He married Laura Summitt on Dec. 23, 1971, in Urbana, Ill. She died Nov. 30, 1995.
Mr. Yoerger was a professor of agricultural engineering at the University of Illinois and was department head when he retired in 1985. He had earned his Ph.D. degree from Iowa State University.
He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign, Ill., the Knights of Columbus, the Urbana (Ill.) Rotary Club, Illinois Farm Bureau, and Leaders of American Science. He was the national past president of Phi Kappa Phi fraternity. He also owned a local apartment chain called Ralley Apartments.
He received the Massey-Ferguson award from The Society of Agricultural Engineers.
Survivors include one son and three daughters, Daniel Summitt of Pesotum, Ill., Linda Canull of Fairfield, Ohio, Anita Smith of Greenville, S.C., and Karen Yoerger of Eugene, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Janice Aheren of Kenosha, Wis., and Geraldine Baldwin of Merrill.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign, with the Rev. John F. Cyr presiding. Entombment will take place at Mt. Hope Mausoleum in Champaign. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at Owens Funeral Home in Champaign. There will be a parish prayer service at the funeral home at 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
