BoDean's plans expansion

Thursday, October 9, 2003

Proposed grant applications by BoDean's Baking Company were approved by the Le Mars City Council this week.

The grant applications to the Iowa Department of Economic Development must be submitted through a government agency such as a city.

The company is proposing expansion of its business operations and creation of additional jobs, and will seek $100,000 in Community Economic Betterment Account (CEBA) funding as well as New Capital Investment Program (NCIP) tax credits.

The programs could provide financial assistance for a portion of the cost of the expansion project. Total value of the expansion could be $10 million over three to four years. The company is planning a three-phase expansion through 2008 and beyond. Additional jobs paying from $13.65 to $15.14 per hour could result.

The council's resolution approved the CEBA grant application to the Iowa Department of Economic Development as well as the application for NCIP tax credits.

The company has operated in Le Mars since 2001 and will have 60 employees by February 2004.
