Concern expressed over sales tax funding

Thursday, October 9, 2003

Don Law of Le Mars spoke to the Le Mars city council during the citizen comment portion of the agenda at this week's meeting.

He said he is concerned about the proposed use of local option sales tax (LOST) funds to deal with shortfalls in funding of the downtown Streetscape and Olson Cultural Event Center projects, and for accounting software.

Mayor Virgil Van Beek said it will be up to the LOST advisory board whether to fund the applications for those uses. The funding requests submitted by the city will be considered along with applications from other groups, Van Beek said.

The council took no action on Law's comments.
