Cornelia Galyen, 87, of Downey, Calif., and former Merrill area resident, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at SunBridge Care Center, Norwalk, Calif.
Mrs. Galyen was born June 23, 1916, in Sioux City, the daughter of Leonard and Anna Karrer Meier. She graduated from East High School, class of 1934, and worked at Johnson Biscuit Company before marrying Floyd C. Galyen on March 11, 1936 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Mrs. Galyen and her husband were farmers at Jefferson, S.D., for seven years and at Merrill for the next 27 years. They retired and moved to Sergeant Bluff in 1977. She was widowed in 1979, and in 1991 moved to Downey, Calif., to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Mrs. Galyen was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff.
Survivors include her daughter Phyllis (Marshall) Skinner, Downey, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Becky Galyen, Merrill; sister, Laura Long Ramage, San Louis Obispo, Calif., a brother, Leonard, (Joan) Meier, Pine Grove, Calif.; four grandchildren, Scott Galyen, Des Moines, Jim (Susan) England, Downey, Calif., Debra (Michael) North, Downey, Calif., Bill England, Oceanside, Calif., step-grandson Rob (Kelley) Skinner, La Habra, Calif., two great granddaughters, Kelsey England and Julie Tardaguila., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Floyd, and son, Jim Galyen.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
