Karen Hatting and Eric Smidt, both of Le Mars, were united in marriage June 7, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. The double ring ceremony took place at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Andrew Hoffmann presiding.

Parents are Kevin and Leann Hatting and Greg and Carol Smidt, all of Le Mars.

D. J. Pick, soloist, was accompanied by Jean Zenk. Violinists were Jan Klein, Missy Janning, Erica Janning, Thomas Henrich, Kevin Orlund and Chris Orlund. Sarah Bjorklund, soloist, was accompanied by Jerrid Kruse on the acoustic guitar.

Maids of honor were Sarah Bjorklund and LaTonya Bohnenkamp, both of Cedar Falls. Emily Smidt of Le Mars and Katie Anthony of Ames were bridesmaids. Flowergirl was Rose Hatting of Omaha, Neb.

Jerrid Kruse of Ames was best man with Cliff Starkey of Wayne, Neb., Matt Hatting of Cedar Falls, and Corey Smidt of Des Moines as groomsmen. Ringbearer was Major Postma of Sibley.

Seating the guests were Matt Fjerkenstad, Erik Jensen, Chris Ott and Brian Pribnow.

The dinner, reception and dance followed the ceremony at the Le Mars Convention Center lower level.

Karen, a 1999 graduate of Gehlen Catholic, earned her degree in sociology from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls in May 2003. She is employed at the Continuing Education Department at the University of Northern Iowa.

Eric, a 1998 graduate of Le Mars Community High School, will earn his degree in history education at the University of Northern Iowa this fall after completing his student teaching at Cedar Falls High School.

Following their wedding trip to Las Vegas, the couple is at home in Cedar Falls.
