CHEROKEE -- Charlotte F. Tilton, 81, of Cherokee, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Blue Island, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Sophia (Lange) Stange. She was educated in Illinois. In May 1942 she married Ed Bednarczyk. He died in November 1950. On April 12, 1958, she married Charles Tilton in Blue Island, Ill. They moved to Cherokee in 1966 where Charlotte worked for Carey's Steakhouse for many years. Mr. Tilton died Dec. 12, 1991.
Charlotte was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosemarie Winters and her husband, Robert, of Cave in Rock, Ill., and Virginia Ohlson of Cherokee; three sons, Edward Bednarczyk and his wife, Bonnie, of Cherokee, Robert Bednarczyk and his wife, Joanne, of Posen, Ill., and Rich Bednarczyk of Cherokee; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Ed Bednarczyk and Charles Tilton; two brothers, Herbert and Norman Stange; two sisters, Mildred Ehlers and Caroline Truschka, and one grandson, William E. Cobern.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee with Pastor Richard Arndt officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at Cherokee. Visitation will be today (Monday), from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
