AUSTIN, Texas -- Gerald "Jerry" Harms, 68, Austin, Texas, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, in Austin of cancer.
Gerald John Harms was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Brunsville, the son of John and Minnie (Dirks) Harms. He lived his early years in Brunsville, moving later to Le Mars and Akron after the death of his father in 1935.
He attended high school in Oklahoma, and shortly after graduation joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served 20 years before retirement. He served in this country and in Spain, where he met and married his wife, Esmaralda. Two sons, Terry and John, were born to this union.
For the past several years, the couple has divided their time living in Madrid, Spain and Austin, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Esmaralda; two sons, Terry of Madrid, Spain, and John of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Marie Kelly of Bayonne, N.J., Joyce Douglas of Edmond, Okla., and Lois Calcote of Midwest City, Okla. He will be remembered in the Le Mars area by uncles, cousins and many friends.
Memorial services will be Monday, Aug. 11, at Fairview Baptist Church in Edmond, Okla.
