When he grows up, 10-year-old Eric Lund wants to be a chiropractor. For now, there's LegosŪ, and books, and horses and being a big brother to keep him occupied.
Lund, the son of Jaramy and Jenni Lund of Kingsley, goes into the fifth grade at Kingsley-Pierson next year.
"I want to learn math mostly," he said, "I like algebra."
At home he likes being the big brother to Alex. "It's fun. If my little brother is doing something that I want and he needs help I get to help. That's fun for me and learning for him."
Eric won Junior High Points in horsemanship at the Plymouth County Fair.
It was his first year to be eligible for 4-H and the fair.
Also in 4-H he made a billfold out of leather. "It's for me. It's got my name on it," he explained.
Other things he likes are LegosŪ and "all sorts of stuff."
"Knights and Indians. I like the olden days, like the middle ages. Ships and robots and mini robots, too. And some Star Wars things."
Lund plays hockey with Siouxland Youth Hockey. That experience has helped him find something he's pretty good with: distances.
"Like, if I'm on the ice, I have to look at the net and calculate where it's going."
The Kingsley youth knows exactly what he wants to be when he grows up and he knows why.
"That's pretty easy. I want to be chiropractor because they get a lot of money and they are helping people a lot and they make people feel better," he said, adding, "Plus, you have to be smart."
Eric's grandmother works for a chiropractor in Sioux City and Eric visits the office. That's given him a head start on his chosen profession. "My chiropractor says I know all the positions," he said.
"When I'm grown up I'm going to live in Sioux City and work with my grandma because by dad works with my grandpa. Pretty cool," said Eric.
Grandma is Cheryl Black of Sioux City and Grandpa is Chuck Neuman of Hinton. "They're divorced. Luckily that was before I was born," their adoring grandson explained.
