ALTON -- Adella Niichel, 70, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Alton, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Lakes Regional Health Care at Spirit Lake, following a brief illness with cancer.

Adella Niichel was born Aug. 8, 1932, at Alton, the daughter of George and Barbara (Engeldinger) Jungers. She grew up in the Alton area and received her education at St. Mary's Academy from which she graduated in 1950. She was then employed at the Alton Savings Bank. On Jan. 21, 1956, she married Merlyn Niichel at Alton. They made their home near Alton where they farmed until 1969. They then moved into Alton where they owned and operated The Log Cabin until 1978. She was then employed at K-Products in Orange City until she retired. The couple resided in Spirit Lake where they enjoyed their retirement.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Spirit Lake. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, fishing, playing cards and going on bus tours.

Survivors include her husband, Merlyn of Spirit Lake; four daughters, Barb and her husband, Lyle Lenz ,of Orange City, Donna Wagenaar of Archer, Laurie and her husband, Jim Gebauer, of Granville, and Cindy and her husband, Brian Grady, of Le Mars; one son, Duane and his wife, Jody, of Granville; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Herb and his wife, Rose Jungers, of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Bernice and her husband, Leo Goergen, of Granville; and two sisters-in-law, Pat Jungers of Hospers, Elenora Jungers of Sheldon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bernard and George Jungers; and one sister, Florence Muth.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with Msgr. Richard Zenk and Msgr. Kenneth Seifried officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Alton following the funeral mass.

Friends may call any time after 2 p.m. Monday with a rosary at 3 p.m. by St. Mary's Rosary Society and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton.

A memorial prayer service will be held Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake, with the family present from 4:30 until 7 p.m. The Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers will be Jason Gebauer, Dan Goergen, Tony Konz, Chad and J. J. Wagenaar, Pat Zenk.
