AKRON- Akron-Westfield survived an early Hinton charge as the Westerners defeated the Blackhawks in baseball action, Friday, June 27, 4-3.
Hinton scored one run in the first inning and two runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead. In the Blackhawks third inning, Kurtis Hoefling had a key two-RBI single to add to Hinton's lead.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Westerners chipped away at Hinton's lead with one run to make it 3-1, Hinton. Akron-Westfield would tie the game at three in the fifth inning and then in the sixth, the Westerners scored one run on a double steal.
Hoefling pitched for Hinton, allowing four earned runs, seven hits, four walks and one hit batter while striking out six.
Hinton head coach Steve Diediker said Akron-Westfield pitcher Brett Stolpe had his team stymied most of the game.
"They're pitcher did a really good job. He just kept us off balance. We got some opportunities when we were up 3-0, but they just kept chipping away and didn't give up," Diediker said.
Hinton (6-12) will play Gehlen Catholic, Monday, June 30, in Hinton.
