Of the more than 600 wrestlers at the state meet, only 18 went to Des Moines undefeated and two of those 18 were from Plymouth County.
Chris Utesch, 112 pounds, of Akron-Westfield lost his first match of the year in the first bout at state. He was pinned by Zach Crow of Southeast Warren in :39.
Kingsley-Pierson's Justin Bohlke, 125 pounds, continued his winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Brandon Billings of Nora Springs-Rock Falls.
K-P had two others win quarter final matches. Jake Collins won 3-2 over Matt Swenson of Elgin Valley at 145 pounds and Joey Verschoor, 118 pounds, won 7-3 over Niles Mercer of Keosauqua.
Two Kingsley-Pierson wrestlers lost in first round bouts. Michael DeWall, 152 pounds, was pinned in 4:57 by Travis Strable of Turo. Kiel Ploen was pinned in :47 by Cody Caulkins of Marengo at 215 pounds.
Akron Westfield's Adam Loutsch, 145 pounds, was pinned in 2:27 by Jason Knipp of Don Bosco. Tyler Small, 275 pounds, lost 6-4 to Jordan Goos of Trainer.
Hinton's first state qualifier, Joel Bertrand at 160 pounds, was pinned in 3:33 by Jarod Bormann of Tipton.
Thursday 1A winners wrestle again today, Friday, Feb. 22. Those who lost their first match wrestled consolation bouts later Thursday.
In his consolation round, Bertrand lost to Kurt Behnke of Greene. Bertrand was pinned in 2:04. Small's consolation results were unavailable to the Daily Sentinel at press time.
Ploen lost his consolation bout to Shawn Morris of Lakeland. Ploen was pinned in 3:44.
Loutsch won 12-10 in his consolation round over Drew Kreman of Tipton.
DeWall defeated Rick Kron of Iowa City Regina, 7-4.
Utesch came back in his wrestleback to win 9-5 over Eric Schlotterbeck of Lisbon.
Loutsch, DeWall and Utesch still have a chance to get a medal in Saturday's matches.
