Pride Night explodes Monday night

Friday, August 23, 2002

The pep rally for Pride Night kicks off at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at Jim Lorenzen Stadium at 12th Street and Third Avenue Southwest.

Sponsored by the business promotions committee of the Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce, the annual event includes introductions of team coaches and captains for the fall season of local schools. The program will list members of each participating team and band.

Gates will open at 5:15 p.m. with programs and coupons distributed. At 5:30 p.m. will be a joint tailgate party by the Booster Clubs of Gehlen Catholic and Le Mars Community Schools. At 6:30 p.m. spectators can enjoy a game of wet-touch football between teachers and merchants. Bands from both schools will alternate songs starting at 6:45 p.m., and play during the rally.

Cheerleaders from LCS and Gehlen will be running the sidelines to get their crowds excited. Dance teams from both schools will also perform.

Volleyball, cross-country, football, dance team and cheerleader coaches will talk about their upcoming seasons with emcee Denny Callahan of KLEM radio.

During the rally, names will be drawn to win prizes based on their athletic skills. Three field goal kickers from the stands will try their luck on the field.

Checks will be presented to representatives of Gehlen Catholic and Le Mars Community Schools from the "Back to School" promotion. The more than $2,000 pool of funds contributed by 31 participating businesses will be split based on percentages of purchases made between July 29 and Aug. 18. Amounts awarded to other area schools will also be announced that evening.

The alternate site if inclement weather will be LCHS' Carey Gym with the concession area set up between 4:30 and 6 p.m. KLEM 1410 AM will announce if events have been moved to the gym.
